Share private statistics with a revocable reading link

A management link gives access to counter settings and should stay with the owner. When another person only needs to read private statistics, create a separate reading link. Stats4U gives each link its own expiry and revocation control, so one recipient’s access can be removed without distributing the owner key.

  1. Owner creates link
  2. Reader views reports
  3. Owner revokes link

Create a reading link

  1. Open the counter through My counters using its private management link.
  2. Open Dashboard and tools, then Read-only links.
  3. Enter a label in Name that helps identify the purpose of the link. Avoid personal information where a project label is sufficient.
  4. Choose Expires and then Add. The expiry cannot be more than a year ahead; up to twenty active links can exist for one counter.
  5. Copy the newly generated reading link immediately. Its secret is shown only once. Store it securely and send only this reading link to the intended recipient.

Check what is being shared

Open the reading link in a separate browser session without the owner’s session. It allows viewing supported statistics but must not provide settings, key rotation, deletion or other owner actions. A copied address containing t= and the private owner key is not a reading link.

Private chart notes and Google connection details are excluded. Notes deliberately made public can be visible to readers who can access the statistics. Review the report and public-note choices before sharing, especially if a note contains internal project information.

A reading link is an access credential. Anyone who receives a working link can use the access it grants; expiry and revocation limit that access but do not stop someone from saving a screenshot or previously downloaded report.

Revoke an individual link

  1. Return to Read-only links through the owner link.
  2. Find the label and expiry for the intended link.
  3. Choose Revoke for that entry. Reopen the old reading link in a separate session to confirm that it no longer grants access.

Create a new link when another recipient still needs access after revocation. Do not replace a rejected reading link with the owner’s management address as a shortcut. If the owner link itself was exposed, use the counter’s ownership-recovery or key-change procedure as appropriate.

Choose the right mechanism for an embed or script

A human reading link is different from an embedded statistics card or the statistics API. Those tools provide their own read-only keys and report scopes in Reports, embeds and API. Use the generated embed or API permission for that purpose, and keep the owner key out of client-side code.

Next step

Open the owned counter and create a separate permission for the intended recipient.
