Connect a counter and find its management link

My counters brings access to several owned counters into one browser session. It does not create a new counter or merge visitor identities across websites. Adding a counter requires its private management link: a public statistics address or a read-only link cannot prove ownership.

  1. Management link
  2. Ownership check
  3. Counter overview

Find the complete link

  1. Locate the management link saved when the counter was created. During setup it appeared in step 3 after copying the installation code; it may also be in the setup email.
  2. If the statistics are already open through that management link, copy the complete address from the browser address bar.
  3. Check that it contains /live/ followed by the counter number and ?t= followed by the private key. Keep that key private.
https://www.stats4u.net/live/12345?t=YOUR_OWNER_KEY

This address is an example only. Neither the number nor YOUR_OWNER_KEY grants access. Use the actual complete link, including its private key; do not post it in a public comment, screenshot or support article.

Add the counter to the overview

  1. Open My counters in the navigation.
  2. Paste the complete address into Full management link. The counter number and key are read from the same link automatically.
  3. Choose Add counter. The counter card appears only after ownership has been checked.
  4. Open Dashboard and tools from the card to reach its measurement settings, reports and tools. Repeat for other owned counters.

There is no need to enter a separate number and key when the complete link is available. The alternative manual fields contain those same two values, not a statistics password or a Google account password.

Recover access when the link is missing

Open the recovery page and enter the counter number together with the exact address of a page containing that counter. Request the verification text, add it to that page’s HTML source and publish the change. Then run the check on the recovery page. A successful check supplies a new management link and invalidates the previous one.

A verification marker can be an HTML comment and does not need to appear visibly on the page. Recovery requires the ability to edit the actual website; a public statistics link alone is insufficient. Follow the recovery screen if the page cannot be fetched or the marker is missing.

Understand what is remembered

The overview holds up to 20 counters in the current browser session. Another browser or a new session requires adding the links again. Replacing the owner key invalidates access obtained through its previous value; add the counter again with its new management link. Removing a card from the overview does not delete the counter or its statistics.

Next step

Start with the complete private management link for an owned counter.
