Where to place a counter and its tracking code

A visible counter and the code that measures visits serve different purposes. The graphic can sit quietly in the footer. Measurement must run on every page intended to appear in the statistics. Installing a counter only on a dedicated statistics page measures visits to that page, not the rest of the website.

Use a shared template for site-wide measurement
Find the template or integration field used by all relevant pages. Depending on the website platform, this may be a footer template, a layout component or a plugin setting. The Stats4U installation guide describes supported platforms; the exact editor depends on the website itself.
- Copy the generated code for the chosen counter.
- Paste it into the shared location once. Avoid adding the same tracker separately to every article if the template already includes it.
- Publish the template change and open a homepage, an article and another page that uses a different layout.
Some platforms use separate templates for shops, landing pages or archived articles. Check those pages too. A change visible on the homepage alone does not establish full coverage.
Keep the visible graphic out of the reading flow
A footer usually gives the counter space without competing with the article or its main action. A sidebar can work on desktop, but often moves below the content on a phone. Test that real placement rather than assuming the desktop column will remain beside the text.
A map or globe can be part of a larger statistics area, while a compact tally fits a small footer. Keep public statistics links understandable and never expose the management link containing the private owner key. A reading link is the appropriate choice when private statistics need to be shared.
Check measurement independently of appearance
With an image-only counter, requesting the counting image is part of measurement. Lazy loading or installing it on only one page can limit coverage. With the generated JavaScript integration, inspect the script and tracking requests as well as the visible graphic.
- Confirm that every intended template contains the generated integration and the same counter number.
- Check browser blocking and errors if the graphic appears but events do not arrive.
- Use Measurement debugger for an event eligibility check without increasing statistics. Its result does not prove that the normal tracker request succeeded.
Repeated reloads used as a test can themselves affect real measurements. Keep installation checks deliberate and compare the chosen date range and counter before drawing conclusions from a total.
